Aluminium Alloy

Product Specifications

The element Aluminium has a specific gravity of 2.7, making it one of the lightest engineering metals, having the strength to weight ratio superior to steel. Pure aluminium is soft, ductile, corrosion-resistant, and has a high electrical conductivity but alloying with other elements is necessary to provide the higher strengths needed for varied applications.

By utilizing various combinations of its advantageous properties such as strength, lightness, recyclability, and formability, aluminium is being employed in an ever-increasing number of applications. Aluminium alloy ingots are commonly used in various industries, such as automotive, power, agriculture and commercial machinery, electronic / communication devices, defence, instruments, and other household products.

Based on the different chemical elements added, product shape, or heating method, etc., the major industrial nations such as Japan, U.S.A. Germany etc all have their own national standards for the various types of aluminium alloys. These standards include JIS, DIN, BS, GB, ASTM, etc.

Aluminium Dross Processing

Today, rising emissions, unsustainable loss of energy, and waste of natural resources have raised a red flag that no industry can continue to ignore. The stakes are way too high and ignoring the effects can cost the industry its very existence. Keeping this in mind SBMI started considering aluminium dross recycling.

the key objectives being: –

  • To reduce metal content in waste
  • To reduce energy usage in aluminium production
  • To reduce fluoride emissions in aluminium production

Primarily keeping these sustainability issues in mind and seeing it as a business opportunity, Sree Padmavati metal industries was set up in 2014, one of the biggest facilities in south India, it is one of a kind state of the art dross processing unit, which recycles aluminium dross, a by-product of the aluminium smelting process, which is mechanically recycled to separate the residual aluminium metal from the aluminium oxide.

PROCESS

Cool Timeline

Process 1

Dross is first crushed

Process 2

Based on the density the crushed dross is separated into aluminium rich particles and aluminium oxide rich particles

Process 3

Aluminium rich particles are melted in a furnace to remove oxide rich particles

Process 4

Aluminium metal is cast into ingots and re-made in to various aluminium products
